NUTTY KRUST
Nutty Krust was introduced by Irwin's in 1963 and today is one of Northern Ireland's best loved grocery brands - a plain (or batch) bread traditionally used for a man's lunch or 'piece'.
With over one-third of the local market (AC Nielsen), Nutty Krust has already conquered the heart of the Northern Irish. Its unique taste and flavour is the result of traditional baking methods, involving a three-hour proof and a longer, slower bake to develop its distinctive taste. From mixing to slicing the whole baking process takes six hours, which means you can't butter better bread.
Particularly enjoyed as a toasted treat, and especially tasty when served with copious amounts of butter and jam, Nutty Krust is also delicious toasted with hot bacon and brown sauce, or extra mature cheddar and relish.
The name Nutty Krust comes from the distinctive crunchy nature of its hard crust. The product itself contains no nut traces and is therefore safe for people with nut allergies.
